Ringmaster God?

Could God be a ringmaster with a show whip,
guiding superbly-trained equines
through intricate dances?

From the horses' point of view,
their purpose is to eat, sleep, reproduce,
and avoid punishment.
To the ringmaster, the horses' purpose
is to put on a good show.
Is there any point at shouting at the horses,
"It's not about you, you know!
No matter how well you perform,
it is for nothing
unless you share the ringmaster's purpose!"?

If a horse should happen to enjoy the applause,
does that make it a bad horse because it presumes
to share the ringmaster's glory?
Or if a horse starts to take pleasure in the dance
for its own sake
and wants to improvise some steps,
what then?

WHAT THEN?

That's easy:I would applaud.

Wouldn't you have to put down your whip to do that?

What whip? There never was a whip.
The pain you feel is yours:
you do it to yourselves and to each other.

So I am free to use my own wings
and sing my own song?

Oh yes. That's the whole point.
But beware -- magnificent undertakings
carry high price tags.

Losing my life to gain it?

That, and more.
